UNESCO World Heritage site
Historic District of old Quebec
Old Québec is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It was founded in 1608 by the French explorer Samuel de Champlain. The old part of the city has a European charm and is filled with deep history and culture. The French and English regimes left their mark on this town, which has been preserved well after 400 years. It is the birthplace of the French North America.
On a bright and sunny October day, I wandered the narrow cobbled streets and admired the historical architecture. There are plenty of sights to see and lots of restaurants and shops. I ended up at the end of the day at Dufferin terrace by St. Lawrence River.
Palace Royale is the precise spot where French explorer Samuel de Champlain built the first permanent French settlement in the Americas. The square is very charming, mixing stone buildings of French and English styles.
French is the official language of the Quebec province. Approximately 80 % of the residents speak French as their native language
