Peace Park &
Lake Ashi

September 2005 • Canon IXUS 700 camera

Today, I was supposed to have witness one of the most iconic sights in Japan, Mount Fuji. The plan was to stop at the visitor center to learn a bit of the history behind Mount Fuji, before driving halfway up to get a closer look. unfortunately, the weather was bad. Really bad. So bad that you could not see anything.

Thick fog with drizzling rain covered the sky. We then went to visit Gotemba Peack Park and Lake Ashi before arriving at Odawara Station to board the Shinkansen train to Kyoto, via Nagoya.

Gotemba Peace Park

Fuji Bussharito Heiwa Park

This park is famous for the views of Mount Fuji as well as Cherry blossoms in Spring. Neither of which I saw when visiting. We had bad weather the whole time we were there.

Lake Ashi

芦ノ湖

The bad weather continued from the Peace Park, and so the plan to take a cruise on Lake Ashi never happened. The name means ”lake of reeds” in Japanese: 芦 (ashi) is “reed”, and 湖 (ko) is ”lake”. The lake is actually a volcanic crater lake on mount Hakone.
