USS MIDWAY

April 2016 • Canon 60D camera

The USS Midway was the longest-serving aircraft carrier in the 20th century, from 1945 to 1992. On April 11, 1992 the Midway was decommissioned in San Diego. It opened as the USS Midway Museum in June 2004.

There is a wide collection of aircraft that you can see up close as well as exploring the different decks on the ship. Each deck has exhibits to visit and there are self-guided audio tours available.

Final thoughts

I was pleasantly surprised how interesting visiting the USS midway turned out to be. There were so many interesting things – from the aircraft to the different rooms below deck. The carrier is very large, so plan to spend a couple of hours here as you explore the ship. Highly recommend if you are in San Diego.
