The Chinese culture is rich and diverse. Which is not surprising as it is one of the most populated countries in the world. It was striking to see so many people while traveling through the country. In every region of China, you will find local cuisine along with arts and craft traditions for that area. It sometimes feel you are traveling through different countries. Crossing the border from Hong Kong, we spent 18 days traveling from the south to the capital city of Beijing.
Highlights include cycling the countryside and bamboo rafting between fairy-tale karst peaks along the Li river. Ascending the mystical mountain of Emei Shan shrouded in mist to spend the night in a Buddhist monastery. Visiting the historical city of Xian where the Terracotta Army stand guard and marvel at the ancient Great Wall of China as it snakes along the Chinese landscape. Oh, and not forgetting the cutural icon—visiting the adorable giant Panada's. China is my favourte trip so far in all my travels.
